The declining MMO DC Universe Online (DCUO) is making its come back as the free to play business model brings it back to its growth stage! The idea of switching from a subscription MMO to a free to play MMO is becoming a growing trend among triple A games. The strategy has been a wise decision for Team Fortress 2, Global Agenda, APB, Lord of the Rings Online and more. After switching to free to play, DCUO is easily moving up the F2P charts with a brighter future ahead!

John Smedley, the President of Sony Online Entertainment, recently announced on his Twitter page that in just 2 days the game has captured over 120,000 registrations with concurrent increase of 400%. Just one day after, he surprisingly tweets that DCUO received over 330,000 new players and that the concurrent usage went up by 600%.

"wow. Over 330k new players. Concurrent usage is up 600% in DCUO! F2P FTW!" @j_smedley

The game has grown so fast that their powerful servers are experiencing crashes and lag.

"Sorry for the server crash PC users. We are working on it. Serious usage." @j_smedley

He also tweeted this video which probably explains what their current situation is like:

The people over at SOE are working hard to keep the servers stable. With a huge TV and online campaign planned later this month, they are going to need a bigger boat for everyone to fit in.
